Finance Committee hears school budget at 4.9 percent increase, cites town infrastructure needs

Finance Committee · Meeting of February 5, 2026

Hinsdale Finance Committee hears school budget rising 13.89 percent despite district cost controls. Superintendent Michael Henault and Director of Finance Greg Boino presented a tentative budget that cut an initial 9 percent proposal down to 4.9 percent through reductions in staffing, class sizes, and transportation reimbursement, but Town Administrator Bob Graves objected to the resulting assessment level, citing urgent police, fire, and infrastructure needs including half the police force on administrative leave and facility repairs requiring immediate attention. Henault defended administrative positions as necessary for student safety and due-process compliance.

The committee voted unanimously to adjourn at 8:15 pm.
